We are a Berber-Italian couple, Simona and Said Our story starts in 2006 when we meet in the Moroccan desert, fall in love and decide to start a life together, among many difficulties but always supported by a great enthusiasm. Today we live between Italy and Morocco and we have a Berber Italian child, Mattia.
The Maroccotour adventure starts in 2007, at first almost for fun. We are legally registered in Italy as travel consultants and since 2007, we have been promoting customized trips to Morocco, carefully designed to discover the more authentic and unusual aspects of this beautiful country.
We specialize in tours and excursions to the desert: a magic place which has always charmed the visitors’ eyes and hearts with its golden majestic dunes and its surreal silence.
We also propose customized itineraries in all Morocco, from the Imperial cities to the coast and the mountains.
All our tours can be personalised in every aspect: you can choose the dates, the parts of the country you wish to visit, the number of days and of people. We will design a customised itinerary which suits your wishes and needs.
We believe that even a short trip can be experienced with the spirit of the real traveller rather than that of a simple “tourist”.
That is why we propose tours inspired by the love and respect of the local people and their territory. Trips that will leave a mark on your heart.
Discovering the Berbers
Our tours, which are often headed to the Erg Chebbi Desert, near Merzouga, are also a journey of discovery of the Berber culture: nomad people, charming and hospitable, who will be happy to share with you their ancient culture, their customs and a lifestyle marked by the slow and silent rhythms of the desert.
In the desert you will be able to stay in a real Berber house and experience the exquisite hospitality of these warm people.
Said
I am a Berber, I was born in a nomad family in the Erg Chebbi desert, near Merzouga. When I was 7 years old, my family decided to abandon their nomad way of life because of the draught and the lack of pastures for our animals. With many sacrifices we have managed to build a little house in the small village of Hassi labied, in front of the dunes, 5 km from Merzouga. I have been working in tourism since I was little to help my family: I sold the fossils which my father found in the desert, I accompanied tourists on excursions and worked in a hotel in the desert. Today I live in Umbria, a green region in the center of Italy, but I also spend part of the year in my beloved desert.
Simona
I am from Umbria but I have always felt a “nomad” at heart. That’s why I have always loved travelling and meeting different cultures. After working for a few years in tourism and helping set up Maroccotour, today I teach English at High School. I love Morocco, the desert and its people and I like the idea that our work might help creating bridges between Morocco and other countries: a little step towards knowing and understanding a different culture.
